Times have changed from when I got married, you needed to go into the Registry Office of Births, Deaths and Marriages to register your change of name. So it looks like the process may be much easier.
Getting married is not the only reason for changing your name, you may have recently finalised a divorce and wish to return to your maiden name, or same-sex couple wanting to “merge surnames” to create a family name at all members of that family share (as marriage is not currently an option in Australia for same-sex couples YET).
